Restorative Dentistry for Kids – Pickering, ON

Customized Protecting & Support for Damaged Teeth

If you think your child has a cavity, or you have been told by your dentist that they have a cavity, the next step to fix the cavity is restorative dental treatment. A cavity can be restored in many ways and may depend on several things such as the size of the cavity or if your child is having any pain or discomfort as a result of it. Please read below about the kinds of restorative dentistry services we offer at HiFive Kids Dental & Braces in Pickering.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Fillings are typically done for small cavities and involve the cavity being removed and then filled with a tooth-colored filling. When the filling is complete, one cannot usually distinguish if the tooth even had a cavity, to begin with! The tooth will be good as new!

Dental Crowns

Fillings are used for small cavities, and crowns are used for large cavities in baby teeth. Dental crowns are placed on baby teeth and stay there until the permanent teeth come in. They do not need to be removed at a later date - the baby tooth will just fall out with the crown on it! The tooth fairy might even offer extra money for the tooth with the jewel crown! Crowns can be silver or white, and if silver is done, it is usually on the back molars where esthetics is less of a concern. White crowns are always done on the front teeth. Crowns are a one-time solution that prevents cavities from reforming as well as further treatment on the tooth.

Tooth Extractions

If your child is having constant pain and discomfort from a tooth, your dentist may recommend an extraction as the tooth may no longer be reparable. An extraction will remove the entire tooth from the root and leave a space where the permanent tooth will come in. Usually, after an extraction, a space maintainer appliance is placed to prevent the shifting of adjacent teeth and maintain space for the permanent tooth.
